Adolphus AMES born 1810 in New York

Adolphus Ames

Spent at least 20 hours this week on Adolphus.

Still no leads to his ancestry in New York.

I looked at over 4000 Ames on Family Search. When you type in Adolphus Ames in the search field you get all the Adolphus' plus any Ames with the letter "A" in the name as an initial for first name, as A for a middle name, etc.  AMES is like looking for SMITH.

I spent more hours searching:
Ames
Imes
Eames
Amz
Amess
Ems
Ahms
Ahm
Asme
Amas
Amos
Aymes
Aims

Looked at many Ames Trees on Ancestry.com

Reviewed my Ames matches on Ancestry DNA and sent a message to everyone of them!

The Adolphus Ames in Jefferson NY was a different one and he ended up in Marquette Wisconsin.  He may be a nephew of my Adolphus.

I also looked at Daniel Ames as Adolphus Ames' first son was named Ira DANIEL Ames.

I could use some more suggestions on how to find him.

AMES in Mc Kean, Pennsylvania

1840 Census Norwich Township, Mc Kean, Pennsylvania
                                                      Adolphus Ames Family

In 1840 Adolphus is living with wife and one child Sarah age 2 born in New York. Also living with Adolphus Ames household is a woman between ages of 60-70 who might be mother or mother in law. I looked at obituaries in Mc Kean County for any Ames or mention of any elderly woman living with the Adolphus Ames family in Norwich Township but did not find any thing. I visited the cemetaries in Norwich Township in 2008 but did not find any Ames tombstones.

1850 Census Liberty, Township, Mc Kean, Pennsylvania
Adolphus Ames Family

In 1850 Adolphus Ames and wife Julia are farmers in Liberty Township,  McKean Co,   PA. Children are Sarah Ames born in 1838 in New York. Ira Daniel Ames born 1842 in Mc Kean, Co, PA; Andrew Ames born in 1845 in Mc Kean, Co, PA; Henry Ames born in 1848 in Mc Kean, PA. When I obtained his deed for this property the deed was signed by Adolphus Ames. On the deed it also stated that his wife's name was Sarah, so she may have been Sarah Julia or just Sarah. The deed conflicted with the census on wife's name.

The deed shows that Joseph Ames owned property adjacent to Adolphus.  Joseph Ames may be the brother to Adolphus Ames.  I will post the deeds in the next post for examination.
